Protect My Voice: Why I Do Not Consent to AI Use of My Recordings as a Human Voice Over

Why Choose a Human Voice Over AI?

As a human voice over artist, I am increasingly encountering AI in my work. While these technological advancements are impressive, they also bring new challenges and risks. One of the biggest concerns for me and many other voice actors is the unauthorized use of our recordings in AI software, which can lead to serious violations of our rights and even be considered a form of theft.

The Importance of Choosing a Human Voice Over AI

On my invoices, I clearly state that my recordings may not be used for AI or for any other purposes than those discussed in our communication and specified on the invoice. This is essential to ensure that my human voice over is only used as agreed upon. However, since invoices are often sent after the project is completed and I deliver the recordings earlier (because clients sometimes need them very quickly), I want to ensure there are no misunderstandings about the use of my voice.

A Real-Life Example

Recently, I heard from a fellow human voice over artist that one of his clients had changed a word in one of his recordings without informing him. When he inquired, it turned out that the client had run the recording through AI software to replicate his voice and change that one word. The client’s excuse? “We didn’t want to bother you because everyone is so busy.”

This is, of course, unacceptable. The issue is not only that my colleague’s human voice over was altered without his consent, but also that his voice is now in an AI system. This could potentially be used in other projects without his knowledge or control.

The Dangers of Unauthorized AI Voice Use

When a human voice over ends up in AI software, there is a risk that it could be reused in other projects without permission and without compensation. This is not only harmful to the voice actor but can also be considered a form of theft. That’s why it’s important to avoid unauthorized AI voice use at all costs.

While I understand that technology is rapidly advancing and clients want to work efficiently, it is crucial that my human voice over is not used in AI applications without my explicit consent. This is not only a matter of respect for my work but also of protecting my rights as a voice actor.

Thank You for Your Understanding

I am doing my best to protect myself and therefore clearly communicate that my human voice over may not be used in AI applications without my explicit consent. As a voice actor who does not work with AI, I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter, and thank you for helping to protect my voice.

If you have any questions about the use of my recordings or would like to discuss further agreements, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

Serge.
